Joseph Ward Perkins

Joseph Ward Perkins, 89 passed away on September 28, 2016. He was born September 15, 1927 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Charles Perkins and Mary (Wills) Perkins. He was predeceased by his sister, Bettie Ann Bannister and oldest son, James Edward Perkins (Ann). Joe was an avid sports fan and was most proud of his five years as a bat boy for the Indianapolis Indians. He told of sitting on the bench with Satchel Page. His favorite baseball teams were the New York Yankees and the Brebeuf Braves. Joe played golf and volunteered at both Ransburg All-American Little League and Municipal Gardens. He was also a member of the United States Army. Joe was devoted to Link Belt where he worked for 45 years. After retirement he enjoyed working at Riverside Golf Course, L.S. Ayres, Macy's and Lockerbie Pub. Joe is best known for his critique of all game officials regardless of the sport. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elizabeth Hill Perkins; children, Joe (Tracey), Bill, and Elizabeth Christie (Lee); grandchildren Charles (Sara) Perkins, Lendsay (Ben) Limmerman, Ali and Joey Perkins, Liza and Steven Christie. He had four step grandchildren Ryan (Carman), Craig, Stacey and Kyle Christie. The family wants to thank Joe's dear nieces and nephews for a lifetime of cherished memories including the Almas', Roeder's and Costello's. Also, a special thanks to Bob, Jason and James for their friendship, support and Workingman's Friend lunches. They brought much joy to Joe during his final years. Funeral services will be on Monday, October 3 at 2:30 PM at Trinity Episcopal Church, 3243 North Meridian Street, Indianapolis, with visitation from 1 PM until service time at the church. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Play Ball Indiana (RBI inner city youth baseball), P.O. Box 681372, Indianapolis, IN 46268.
