Joseph Ward Dorrell Jr., 89, life-long resident of Indianapolis, passed away on July 10, 2016. He was born August 24, 1926, the son of Joseph W. and Marie (Shoaf) Dorrell.
Joe graduated from School 66 and Shortridge High School and enrolled in Butler University. Enlisting in the Navy on his 18th birthday, he served on the USS Brazos, a tanker present at the battle for Okinawa. Returning to Butler, he was President of the Sigma Chi Fraternity chapter and graduated with a degree in business administration.
He was the President of Shoaf Cutter Company for over 30 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of North United Methodist Church, the Rotary Club, Indianapolis Athletic Club, Mystic Tie Lodge, the Scottish Rite, and the Murat Shrine.
Joe is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marianne (Buschmann) Dorrell, his son John and daughter Judith, his three granddaughters, and his four great-grandchildren.
