Joseph Thomas Matthews III, 72, of Indianapolis, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Saturday, February 28, 2015. He was born in Trenton, Tennessee to Joseph T. Matthews, Jr. and Eunice (Voss) Matthews on June 22, 1942. Joe was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Vietnam War. After service, he worked as an automotive repairman and service manager for Ryder Truck Rental for 24 ½ years. Following his retirement in 1995, he became the owner of Matthews Mobile Service. Joe was a 32 year member of Avon United Methodist Church and active in the Hendricks County Military Honor Guard. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Kathleen (Whitsett) Matthews; children Joe T. Matthews IV (Katrina), Lori A. Bullock (Pat), Scott A. Matthews (Gretchen), Julie M. Stanley (Scott); 11 grandchildren, Julianna, Abigail, Andrew, Joel, Ian, Benjamin, Alexander, Cameron, Preston, Madyson and Dillon. Joe is also survived by brother, Steven Matthews; sisters, Tammy Malone and Debbie Sparks. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Barbara Allen; and brother, Tim Sampson Visitation will be held Monday, March 9, 2015 from 3-7pm at Avon United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11am, also at the church, with visitation 1 hour prior. Burial with military honors will follow in West Ridge Park Cemetery.
