Joseph Paul Sweatt

July 30, 1980 — August 14, 2025

Indianapolis

Joseph Paul Sweatt, age 45, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away tragically on August 14, 2025, as a result of a motorcycle accident. Born on July 30, 1980, Joseph lived his life with a rare and radiant spirit—full of humor, generosity, and boundless heart.

A proud journeyman ironworker, Joseph traveled across the country, dedicating himself to building and shaping the very framework of America. He took immense pride in his craft, but his true legacy lies in the lives he touched—both at home and on the road. To know Joseph was to love him. He never met a stranger, and no child in need ever went unseen. “Dad” wasn’t just a title—it was a calling. Whether by blood or by bond, he made room in his heart and home for anyone who needed it.

Joseph had a one-of-a-kind personality—genuine, hilarious, and full of light. He was the guy who could make you laugh through your tears, the one who’d brighten any room the moment he walked in. Always referring to himself playfully as “The Black Pope.” Joseph was larger than life, and yet so grounded in kindness, respect, and love for others.

He was a true foodie who loved to eat out and try new dishes, always ready to share a recommendation or a bite. He believed in living fully, loving deeply, and lifting up those around him—always seeing the best in people, even when they couldn’t see it in themselves.

He was “Superman” to his family, and even in death, he gave selflessly to strangers—just as he always had in life. In his final act of heroism, Joseph continued his legacy of giving by saving four lives through organ donation.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his daughters, Kaleah, Haylie, Shaylin, and Jada, along with countless siblings, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends, chosen family, and the many “kids” he unofficially adopted along the way.

He is reunited in heaven with her mother, Wilma N. Rhodes-Sublett.

Joseph Paul Sweatt was truly one of a kind. He lived boldly, loved fiercely, and left a legacy of light that will never be forgotten.
