Joseph Patrick Salimbene
91, Indianapolis, IN. passed away on April 14, 2011. Joseph was born on April 21, 1919 in Wiley Ford, W.VA., to Joseph and Maria (LaNeve) Salimbene. As a boy, he lived with his family in the Calabria region of Italy.
He started in the dairy business in the 1930s by working with his family in a small cheese-making operation in Martins Ferry, Ohio. He graduated from the Wisconsin Dairy School in 1942. He was employed by Kroger Dairy for 38 years as a quality control chemist.
Joseph married Mary Belle Hall on June 20, 1943 in Dayton, Ohio. He was a self-educated man who enjoyed many hobbies including photography, gardening, beekeeping and reading. In his later years he especially enjoyed his five grandchildren.
Joseph is survived by his wife; three daughters, Marilyn Beck of Bradenton, FL.; Patricia Copeland (Douglas), of Anna Maria, FL.; and Anna Hayden (Richard), of Pittsboro, IN., grandchildren Angie Beck, Layla and Anna Maria Copeland, Patrick and Nicholas Hayden; and his brother, Frank Salimbene. He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Russell and Rocco; and three sisters, Virginia, Margaret and Evelyn.
Visitation will be after 12:00 pm on Monday, April 18, 2011 followed by the funeral service at 2:00 pm at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center – Washington Park East 10722 E. Washington St. Indianapolis. Burial will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation of Indiana, 911 E. 86th St. Ste. 100, Indianapolis, IN 46240.
