Joseph Green Newton of Fishers, IN, passed away on July 28, 2025, at the age of 77. He was born in Mayfield, KY, on August 3, 1947, to parents Joseph Harry and Anna Belle (Green) Newton. Joe graduated from Fulton Co. High School where he was sports editor of the school newspaper, played trumpet in the band, and became an Eagle Scout. Joe holds a B.S. in Industrial Management from Murray State University.
Joe met Diane Binford during their freshman year in high school, and they were inseparable from that moment on. They were married on June 2, 1968, before his deployment to Vietnam, where he was a Bandsman and Specialist 4th Class. After an honorable discharge from the Army and subsequently completing his college degree, Joe and Diane moved to Paducah, KY, and in 1973, they had their first and only child, Amy. Joe worked as a draftsman for E.T. Hannan & Assoc. and as a sales engineer for CTS but would eventually join State Farm Insurance as a Claims Specialist and work there for the next 31 years, until his retirement in 2007. After retiring, Joe and Diane moved from Lexington, KY to Fishers, IN to be closer to their growing family, now proud grandparents to two little girls. They joined St. Mark’s United Methodist Church and became active members of the congregation.
Joe loved God & his family, first and foremost. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing, camping, snow skiing, playing his trumpet, reading and watching UK basketball. He and Diane loved to travel, both for fun and in service to various organizations, such as Habitat for Humanity, Mission Guatemala, and Red Bird Mission in Beverly, KY.
Joe will best be remembered for his compassion, humility, hard work, sense of humor, love of music, and service to others. Joe never met a stranger, always had a smile on his face, and his hugs were unforgettable.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Diane; daughter, Amy (David) Adams; adoring grandchildren, Caroline and Ava Adams; sister, Harriett (Clint) Rickman; and nephew, Kevin (Alice) Rickman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Anna Belle Newton, and his “second” parents (in-laws), Gerald and Mary Lou Binford.
Visitation will be held from 10am until 12pm on August 9, 2025, at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church (4780 E. 126th St., Carmel, IN). A celebration of life will be held immediately following at 12pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be sent to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Indianapolis or Red Bird Mission, KY.
