August 23, 1932 — May 24, 2026

Joseph (Joe) Meschino of Hoosier Village (Indianapolis) went to the Lord on May 24, 2026. He was 93 years old. He is survived by his wife Gloria (nee Capuano), with whom he shared 72 years of marriage. Together they raised 3 sons: Joe Jr., David (now deceased), and Paul. Additionally, Joe’s family extended to 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Joe was born in 1932 in Cranston, RI to Italian immigrant parents. He graduated from Cranston HS. Of the 3 brothers, he was the first to attend college, graduating from Brown University with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, then a masters from Rice, and finally a year of post-graduate study at MIT. For 22 years Joe worked for McNeil Laboratories in pharmaceutical research. His job took him around the world. After McNeil, Joe worked in various research positions, ending with 5 years at the National Institute of Health, Division of AIDS. Joe always wanted to live near water, and spent most of his retirement years in Avalon, NJ. During that time, he and Gloria visited many countries. Joe was a passionate fisherman, the owner of several boats, and a member of the local, Avalon Yacht Club. Wherever he lived, till is last days, Joe was devoted to his gardens. The plots yielded bushels of tomatoes, beans, cucumbers, eggplant, zucchini. His ashes will find their final place in his favorite fishing spot, Paddy’s Hole, in Avalon, NJ.
