Joseph J. Hulka Of Carmel, Indiana, went to his heavenly rest on April 15, 2011. He was born in Chicago, IL, on August 28, 1940. Joe was a loving husband of almost 40 years to Sophie J. Hulka, proud father and father-in-law of Michael J. and Liane Groth Hulka, devoted grandfather of Samuel Joseph and Oliver William Hulka, caring brother-in-law to Lucille Burns, Rita and Gerard Ruttendjie, and Stanley and Bonnie Rzonca, and cherished uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Frank and Mae, his brothers Donald and Lawrence, and his daughter-in-law Tricia E. Black. Joe was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army and spent the majority of his career in the advertising business as a production director in Chicago, IL, first with T.J. Lithographing and later with Columbian Advertising. Joe lost his sight in 1993, but never lost his vision to care for his family, friends and community, choosing to volunteer his time at St. Margaret Mercy Health Care Center in Dyer, IN, where he and his faithful guide dogs, Crunch and Elvis, ran the 3C desk and visited patients on the adolescent pscyh and transitional care units. Friends and family may call from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at Flanner & Buchanan Carmel Funeral Center. Funeral Mass on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Carmel, IN.
