Joseph Jackson

February 14, 1944 — February 3, 2024

Joseph “Joe” N. Jackson of Indianapolis passed away Saturday, February 3, 2024, with his granddaughter Allyson by his side, just 11 days shy of his 80th birthday. Joe or Pops as he was known by his family was preceded in death by his loving wife/roommate Alice S Burke, his daughter Julia A Jackson, his stepdaughter Marcia Ferguson, and all his beloved siblings as well as his parents.

Joe lived life to its fullest and always had a mischievous grin on his face. He worked in several professions in his lifetime where that grin served him well. Pops was a painter and wallpaper hanger, a semi driver, a stock car driver and builder, a school bus driver for Warren Township and most importantly a musician. He plucked his guitar and sang from here to Nashville at every bar, festival and music venue that would have him. Joe shared his great love of music by giving guitar lessons and recording music in his studio. He would also sit in his recliner and fill the house with notes from his guitar that will forever be missed.  Joe took up woodworking after the loss of Alice and became pretty good at it, many squirrels thank him for the picnic tables he built. A miniature sailor somewhere is sailing the sea on a painstakingly built ship that Pops spent hours on.

Pops is survived by his son Nicholas S Jackson, his stepdaughters Jackie Day, Sharon Stinnett, and Pam Hammond as well as his stepson Jeff Burke. He will be missed greatly by his 8 grandchildren, who will always cherish the school night Dairy Queen trips, helicopter rides, go kart racing, and the many games he beat them at, most by cheating with a grin! He loved spending time with all his 17 great grandkids and took any chance to cook them his special fries or sugar them up with candy.
