Joe "Bullfrog" Hollingsworth, 88, of Indianapolis, passed away March 31, 2015. He was born in New Augusta, and graduated from Pike High School and loved the Pike Township community. Joe was drafted into the US Army, 9th Infantry Division during WWII and was highly decorated including 2 Bronze Stars. He attended Butler University and played basketball and football for the legendary Tony Hinkle. He was an Engineer with Indiana Bell retiring in 1982 after 32 years and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. He and his brother continued the family heritage of farming and farmed for most of his life. Joe's passion was farming, boating, spending winters in Ft. Myers and playing euchre and poker. He was a lifetime member of the Zionsville and Ft. Myers, FL American Legion and VFW, and a lifetime member of the Westside Social Club. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and the Shrine. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Georgia (Foster) Hollingsworth and his brother, Charles Hollingsworth. He was the life of the party and everyone had fun being around him. Joe had many dogs during his lifetime, including his last few pets, Sparky and Suzi.
Surviving are his children, Joelynn Miller (Patrick), Kevin H. Hollingsworth (Patti) and Gary R. Hollingsworth (Jenny); grandchildren, Emily, A.J and Eric Hollingsworth; Derek Scott, Shane and Craig O'Brien and Steve Miller (Connie); a great-granddaughter, Violet Miller.
A celebration of Joe's life will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at Flanner and Buchanan-Zionsville, 105 W. Pine St., Zionsville, IN 46077. In honor of Joe the family ask that you come in casual dress. Visitation will be held Monday, April 6, 2015 from 4:00-8:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lincoln Memory Gardens with military rites.
