Joseph H. Gawrys, 88, Indianapolis, passed away August 25, 2014. He was born on March 19, 1926 in Buffalo, NY, the son of John and Veronica (Gozdziak) Gawrys. Joseph was a graduate of Indiana University. He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War. Joseph was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, as well as the Knights of Columbus- Our Lady of Fatima Council #3228, where he was a 4th Degree Knight. He was also the Indiana state historian and museum curator for the Knights of Columbus. Joseph was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Kathleen Gawrys, his son, Joseph P. Gawrys, and his grandson, Benjamin Gawrys Farber. He is survived by his children, Mary Gawrys (Larry Hackney), Eileen Gawrys (John H. Rogers), Sharon Brown (Dave Franz), Patricia Gawrys (Craig Bixler), Nancy Gawrys, and Kevin Gawrys (Karen); 18 grandchildren; his daughter-in-law, Sue Gawrys; and his sister-in-law, Diane Gawrys. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, September 2 at 10 AM at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 7243 E. 10th Street, Indianapolis. Visitation will be on Monday, September 1 from 4-8 PM at Flanner and Buchanan- Memorial Park, 9350 E. Washington Street. Cremation will be accorded.
