Joseph E. Lucas, 72 of Indianapolis was born September 1, 1942 and died August 27, 2015. He was born in Middleburg, Kentucky to Ed and Ruby Lucas. Joe lived most of his life in Indianapolis. He served in the US Air Force and then became a Firefighter for the Indianapolis Fire Dept. He retired in August 2000 after 30 years of service. After retirement, he served on the Merit Board. He enjoyed going to his place in Kentucky and being with his family and friends. He loved reading. He is preceded in death by his father, Ed Lucas and his brother, Robert Carl Lucas. Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife, Bonnie, his mother, Ruby Lucas, his children, Robert "Dennis" Lucas and Julie Edwards, stepchildren, Mark Hopper, Jason Hopper, Michelle Hahn and Angela Braden, his sister, Gerry Lawrence, his brother, Steven Lucas as well as 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Friends may visit from 4 PM to 8 PM Monday, August 31, 2015 at Flanner and Buchanan – Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington St., Indianapolis and from 10 AM until service time at 11 AM Tuesday at the funeral center.
