Joseph Shu-Jen Cheng, 81, of Fishers, Indiana, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2026.

Born on November 14, 1944, in Chongqing, China, Joseph was the beloved eldest son of Kuo-Heng Cheng and In Hu. He was raised in Taipei, Taiwan, where his curiosity and intellect began to flourish. A gifted student, Joseph earned his bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering from Chung Yuan Christian University.

He began his professional career with General Electric in Taiwan, where his talent and leadership quickly led to his promotion to Production Manager. He later brought his expertise to Chung-Hsin Electric & Machinery, where he dedicated nearly two decades of service. In 1983, Joseph immigrated to the United States and continued his distinguished career as a Manufacturing Manager at Amphenol until his retirement.

Throughout his life, Joseph was deeply devoted to his family. He was a caring and dutiful son, lovingly tending to his elderly father in Syracuse, Indiana. A true engineer at heart, Joseph approached both his work and everyday life with creativity and ingenuity, always finding thoughtful solutions to both simple and complex challenges.

He had a profound love of history and was a lifelong learner, constantly seeking to understand the world around him. An avid photographer, Joseph possessed a keen eye for detail and beauty. He was known as a hardworking, principled man, a person of integrity, responsibility, and quiet strength. Above all, he cherished his family and demonstrated his love through unwavering dedication and support.

Joseph is survived by his siblings, Lee Cheng, Catharina Chan, James Cheng, and Cecilia Cheng. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Ricky and Josephine Chan and children Ethan and Julianna, Eric and Sarah Chan, Andrew Cheng, Belinda Cheng and Trevor Brust.

A celebration of Joseph’s life will be held on Saturday April 4th at 12:00pm at Flanner Buchanan-Oaklawn Memorial Gardens (Conner Suite), 9700 Allisonville Rd. Indianapolis. Visitation will begin there at 11:00am.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association in his memory.

Joseph will be dearly missed, and his legacy of intellect, kindness, and quiet strength will live on in all who knew him.
