Joseph A Bugert

Joseph (Joe) Bugert of Indianapolis passed away August 27, 2020 in his home after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born on May 8, 1943 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Edwin and Marcella (Nix) Bugert.

After graduating from Central Catholic High School in Fort Wayne, Joe went on to earn his degrees at International Business College and Ball State University after which he became a CPA while employed in public accounting. Joe retired from Koorsen Fire & Security after 19 years of dedicated service. Joe was a member of Holy Spirit Parish at Geist Catholic Church, where he taught religious education classes as well as volunteering at the Indianapolis Marion County Public Library, teaching literacy skills to adults. He also taught reading skills in the Indianapolis Public School System for many years, and taught reading comprehension to refugees through Catholic Charities for ten years. Joe spent his free time working in his garage workshop fixing up bikes, high chairs, desks, or anything salvageable to donate to charity. He also loved to kayak, fish and camp but most of all, he loved his family and his friends.

Joe is survived by his son, John (Leanne) Bugert; grandsons Phillip and Simon; brother Jim (Kathy) Bugert; sister Mary (Craig) Beaverson; and sister Sara Bohnke; and sister-in-law Kay Bugert.

He was preceded in death by parents, Edwin and Marcella Bugert; brother, Robert Bugert; and brother-in-law, Michael Bohnke.

A Memorial service will be held on Friday, September 4, 2020 at 2pm at Flanner Buchanan-Oaklawn Memorial Gardens (Conner Suite) immediately followed by a graveside service at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery.
