Jorge Enrique Alvarez, 48 of Carmel, Indiana passed away on October 4, 2021. He is survived by his wife, DeAnna; children, Elena, Natalia, and Julian Alvarez; parents, Jorge and Lucia Alvarez; siblings, Carlos Alvarez (Andrea Lozano) and Santiago Alvarez (Diana Jimenez), his in-laws Gabriel & Sulema Cabrera, brother-in-laws Gabriel (Courtney) Cabrera and Brandon Cabrera; nieces and nephews; Camilo Alvarez, Isabella and Franco Alvarez, Abigail Evilsizor-Cabrera, Gabriel and Graham Cabrera; and many cherished aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.
He graduated from J.P. Taravella High School in Coral Springs, Florida. Jorge earned a BS in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University where he met his future wife, charming her with his salsa dancing and happy go lucky demeanor. He had a love of learning, and went on to earn an MSEE in Florida and a business degree from Purdue.
Jorge valued his family life and was a beloved son, brother, husband, father & friend. He loved his children immensely and took interest in their pursuits, always there to take photos or videos of their hobbies to proudly share with relatives. He approached fatherhood with a spirit of adventure. Jorge enjoyed finding the most difficult trail hike at parks and encouraging his kids and sometimes his wife, that they could finish them, the eternal optimist that he was. He made our lives more interesting, more daring & more fun.
He had a great love for travel and learning languages. He was blessed to experience both through his trips for work as an auditor for Thomson Electronics and in various roles in Business Development and Finance at Roche in Indianapolis. Jorge loved meeting new people, experiencing new cultures & places and making friends all over the globe. He was frequently found on his computer, speaking in a foreign language and catching up with a colleague in another country. He loved family travels, hoping to give his children a glimpse of places and people in other parts of the world.
Perhaps one of the most memorable things about Jorge was how he intertwined his faith, his friends, family and his guitar. Jorge was always happy to lend his musicality to help serenade for a birthday or gather friends around a firepit to sing, tell jokes, laugh and play guitar with him. He faithfully participated in volunteer music ministry for over 30 years, feeling called to serve God with the gifts he was given. Playing at mass was truly his happy place and he always felt he received more than he gave by being a part of it.
Two years ago, Jorge was diagnosed with brain cancer. Never faltering in his faith, he persistently pursued treatments, prayed for God’s healing & the courage to handle the difficulties of his disease. His perseverance in the face of such hardship truly was inspiring and a testament to his Faith in God for healing in this life or the next. He will be missed dearly by all the lives he touched.
The family requests that you please wear a mask to the visitation and service if you are able.
