Some people build buildings.
Jon Maci built people, traditions, and a family that will continue his legacy of love.
Jonathan Ray “Jon” Maci, 68, of Fishers, Indiana, passed away on April 3, 2026.
Born in Indianapolis on May 12, 1957, Jon grew into the kind of man who never hesitated to help. Whether it was a youth sports team needing a coach or a family member needing a steady hand, Jon was always there when it mattered most.
Jon’s greatest pride was always his family.
He is survived by his wife Jan, his children Drew (Cheryl), Kate (Brian), Anne (Byron), Robert (Lauren), and Christine, and his eight beloved grandchildren RJ, Violet, Jojo, Blaire, Xavier, Max, Bridget, and Renee. To them he was many things — coach, teacher, storyteller — but most importantly, their favorite “tickle monster,” responsible for countless giggles and joyful chaos. He is also survived by his older brother, Greg. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Ellen Maci.
Jon loved the simple joys of life: fishing, boating, RV camping, Purdue football Saturdays, bonfires, tailgates, Geist fireworks, and cheering on Cathedral and HSE sports. His sayings — “Short version is…,” “Tippy Time,” and “Boiler Up!” — will forever echo through family gatherings.
Those who knew Jon remember warm hugs, kind eyes, steady patience, and a quiet loyalty that never wavered. He had a generous, self-giving spirit and was known for putting the needs of others before his own. He brought calm, strength, and reassurance to the people around him and was simply always there when it mattered most.
Jon also built an impressive career in commercial construction, spending forty years as a project manager helping lead projects including Eskenazi Hospital, Simon Property Group Headquarters, the Indianapolis Fire Department Headquarters, St. Vincent Hospital, Belterra Casino, the Cincinnati Reds Stadium, HP Headquarters, and many others. He took pride in watching something rise from the ground up — whether it was a building, a team, or a young person learning confidence.
Visitation will be held Monday, April 13, 2026, from 9:30–11:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Parish at Geist in Fishers, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. A luncheon will follow the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Meals on Wheels or the Wounded Warrior Project.
Short version is… he loved big, hugged tight, and took care of his people.
