Johnnie Leon Newberry

Johnnie Leon Newberry 78, Indianapolis, passed away April 28, 2012. Johnnie was born in Red Boiling Springs, TN on October 18, 1933 to the late Joseph Bedford Newberry and Irene Ora (Johnson) Newberry. Before retirement, Johnnie worked as a smoke house operator for Stark and Wetzel / Rath and for the last 15 years prior to retirement, he worked as a custodian for Decatur Township Schools. Johnnie was an avid hunter and loved spending time with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael Stephen Newberry and six siblings. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Mary Evelyn (Williams) Newberry, whom he wed on August 28, 1954; children: David L. Newberry and Regina Gemmel (Don); grandchildren: Kastonia Gray (Adam), W. Jeffrey Smith (Emily), Jake Newberry, Angela Diane Gemmel and Donald Elliott Gemmel; two great-grandchildren, Addison Gray and Dayton NewberryBrown; and sister, Margie Miller (Joe). Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at Flanner and Buchanan- Decatur. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 2nd at the funeral center.
