John Wesley Bowling
88, passed away on October 3, 2011. He was born on June 28, 1923 in Cincinnati, OH to the late John and Nell (Gettys) Bowling.
He was preceded in death by brothers Donald and Jerry. He is survived by brother Sam Bowling and sister Patricia Jack. John leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Evelyn (Peters) Bowling. He is also survived by children, Vicki (Dan) Wilhite, David (Vicki) Bowling, Cindy Bowling, Patty Bowling, 5 granchildren aned 4 great grandchildren.
John served from 1943-1946 during WW II in the 256th Engineer Combat battalion of the US Army. He graduated from Florida State University with a BS Ed and retired in 1988 from Arvin Industries in Columbus, IN, after 34 years of service. He retired as Manager of Manufacturing Planning. After retirement, John was involved in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program and was given the Big Brother of the Year Award. He and Evelyn delivered Meals on Wheels until they moved to Indianapolis, IN in 2005. John was a member of East Columbus United Methodist Church for 54 years where he taught Sunday School for 30 years.
Visitaion will be from 6 to 8 pm Thrusday, October 6 at Kessler Krest Baptist Church, 3315 West 56th Street. Services will be at 1 pm on Friday, October 7 at East Columbus United Methodist Church, 2439 Indiana Ave., Columbus, IN with visitation from 11 am until time of service. Burial will be at Dupont Cemetery.
