John (Jack) Wilson Welsh
94, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2015, in Indianapolis surrounded by his loving family. Born in Greenfield, Indiana, Jack attended Rose Hulman Institute of Technology earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Immediately upon graduation he joined the U.S. Navy as an officer to fight in World War II where he participated in the North African campaign, D-Day and Pacific operations.
After the war, Jack worked for Eli Lilly and Dow Chemical Companies before starting J. W. Welsh Engineering Consultants at age 52 with his wife, Norma, whom he adored; a company they successfully grew until his retirement at age 68. Jack's family, friends, clients and co-workers would agree that he was uniquely gifted in talent and temperament. An engineer at heart, he strived to do the right thing through integrity, strength, humility and humor. Jack's life brings to mind Psalm 37:23, 'The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way.'
Forever a man of the water, he enjoyed sailing, fishing and simply puttering with anything connected to boats or the water. He also enjoyed golf, a pastime he shared with his wife while living at The Pointe in Bloomington, Indiana and Ft. Myers, Florida.
Jack is survived by his wife of 69 years, Norma, their two children Susan Marr (Jeff) of Indianapolis and Doug Welsh (Joan) of Cincinnati; their grandchildren Ben Marr (Becky), Ryan Welsh, Esther Zunker (Steven), Meredith Sheaffer, Henry Marr (Bekah), Charles Marr (Hannah) John Welsh and eight great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Lucille Stohler and Mary Helen Hayes.
A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, November 4 at 2:00 PM at the Hoosier Village Chapel, 9870 Cherry Leaf Drive, Indianapolis Indiana. Visitation with the family will be at 1:00 PM.
