John Wilbur Mickey Sr.
98 of Indianapolis passed away on November 11, 2013. He was born on November 2, 1915 in Russellville, Illinois, the son of Lumen and Lillian Marie (Williams) Mickey.
John was retired from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department where he served as a Sargent in the Motorcycle Division. He was also retired from the Indiana State Highway Department Relocation Division.
He served our country in the U.S. Navy, U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserve.
He was a member of The American Legion Post 88, The American Legion Past Eleventh District Commander, Past City of Southport Police Commissioner, Murat Shrine, Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels Legion of Honor, North Park Lodge #646 F & AM, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1120 Life Member, Retired Police Officers Association Life Member, FOP Lodge 86, Past FOP President, Sahara Grotto, Scottish Rite 32nd Degree Master Mason, Forty & Eight. He was also a member of the IPD Motorcycle Drill Team and Murat Shrine Drill Team.
He is preceded in death by his wife Betty J. Mickey, son John W. Mickey Jr. and daughter Patricia Lefevers.
Survivors include: Daughter Lynn (Michael) Brown, son James Robert (Mary Davis) Mickey, daughter-in-law Deanavon Marie Mickey and nephew Christopher Joseph Cox. Grandchildren Kevin Mickey, Scott Mickey, Kristen Leitzman, Christopher Brown, Erin Brown, Tracie Bennitt, Christina Lawrence, and Robert Lefevers; 10 great- grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday November 15, 2013 from 4PM to 8PM at Flanner and Buchanan - Washington Park East, 10722 East Washington Street. Funeral services will be at 1PM on Saturday November 16, 2013 at Flanner and Buchanan. Entombment in Washington Park East Cemetery.
