John J. Semo, Jr.

John J. Semo, Jr. 80, of Carmel, Indiana and formerly of Lewiston, New York, passed away October 31, 2023.  He was born January 30, 1943, in Binghamton, NY, the only child of the late John J. Sr. and Pearl (Arvai) Semo.  John proudly and honorably served in the United States Army's 82nd Airborne Division. He married Barbara A. Cerwonka in 1967 and they were deeply devoted to one another ever since. 

John worked in the newspaper industry for over 35 years and retired in 2001 from Gannett Newspapers as a production manager.  John was active in sports and an avid fan, particularly of Notre Dame football and the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Barbara Semo; son, Michael (Lesley) Semo; and granddaughter, Claire Semo.  He was preceded in passing by a son, Paul Semo. John and Barbara moved to Carmel, Indiana in early 2023 to be closer to Michael and his family. 

John battled cancer and its aftermath for 22 years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Roswell Park Cancer Institute (www.roswellpark.org). John always kept his wonderful smile and kind soul at the ready, he will forever be in our hearts.

A memorial celebration will be held on November 8 from 3 to 4 PM at Wellbrooke of Carmel, 12315 North Pennsylvania St, Carmel, Indiana.  Arrangements were entrusted to Flanner Buchanan – Carmel.  Online condolences may be shared by visiting www.flannerbuchanan.com.
