John Raymond “Ray” Steenhausen

Carmel, IN, formerly of Warsaw, died peacefully October 13, 2016 at The Stratford, Carmel.
Ray was born August 28, 1926 in Chicago, IL to Jacob (Jack) and Lillian (Taylor) Steenhausen. He is a graduate of the University of Illinois with degrees in chemistry and geology.
Ray and his family moved to Warsaw in 1958 where he began his 35-year tenure as co-owner of Warsaw Chemical Co., Inc. An active member of the Warsaw business community, Ray belonged to many local civic organizations and the Knights of Columbus.
Ray and his wife of 65 years Mary (Somers) Steenhausen retired to Estero, FL in 1992. The couple returned to Indiana in 2006 to be closer to their family.
Ray was preceded in death by his daughter Joan. In addition to his wife, Ray is survived by son Jack (Meredith) Steenhausen and daughters Mary Ann (Dave) Creighton, Nancy (Scott) Schmutzler, Susan (Jim) Allen and Ellen (Christopher) Clapp. He is also survived by five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Private funeral services will be held in Carmel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to The Little Sisters of the Poor or the charity of their choice. Arrangements handled by Flanner and Buchanan-Zionsville.
