John R. Irvine

August 10, 1926 — April 25, 2014

John R. Irvine, 87, Greenfield, passed away April 25, 2014. He was born in Indianapolis on August 10, 1926. John served in the U.S. Navy during WW II and the Korean War. He retired from Western Electric after over 30 years of service as a tool and die maker. John was a member of the Pioneer Club of Western Electric and the Greenfield American Legion Post #0119. As John was beginning his family, he owned and raced hydroplane boats. He was very active in coaching little league baseball for all four of his sons. John enjoyed sports and adored family gatherings. He had a passion for his family and always found the silver lining in any situation. John was a very active player of the stock market. He was preceded in death by his sister, Paula Leanhardt. John is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joyce Ann (Sherman) Irvine; his sons, John "Rusty" Irvine, Jerry Irvine, Perry Irvine, and Keith Irvine (wife, Madren); his grandchildren, Rachel, Hannah, Brooke, Jenna, Austin, Nathan, and Megan; and his siblings, Joy, Victor, Karlyn, Jimmy, and Lauren. Services will be on Tuesday, April 29 at 11 AM at Flanner and Buchanan- Washington Park East. Visitation will be on Monday, April 28 from 5-8 PM at the funeral center. Burial will be in Washington Park East Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to the Hancock Regional Hospital Hospice Care or the American Alzheimer's Association.
