John R. Chaplin

John R. Chaplin 71, of Speedway, passed away January 16, 2012 in Indianapolis. John was a retired UAW International Rep. He was a member of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 497, V.F.W. Post 98, Amvets Post 99, The I.P.B. Club and The I.U. Alumni Association. He received a Sagamore of the Wabash from Governor O'Bannon and was a Kentucky Colonel. He was preceded in death by his first wife Margaret Sue Chaplin. He is survived by his wife Barbara Chaplin, children: Brenda Chaplin-Chase, John (Tina) W. Chaplin and Michele Ray, brothers: Charles Chaplin and Mike Swathwood, sister Carol Dye and five grandchildren. In his own words, "I love my God, my wife, my family, my country, I.U. Hoosiers and the UAW. I enjoy fast cars, playing golf and socializing with my friends. I have had a wonderful life thanks to all of the above." Visitation will be Friday, January 20th, from 4 to 8 pm at Flanner and Buchanan Speedway. Services will be Saturday, January 21st, at 11 am with calling one hour prior at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
