John Edward Pruitt
85, of Indianapolis, died June 18, 2014.
Born on September 10, 1928, John grew up in Terre Haute, Indiana, with brother Billy and parents Dorothy and O.H. Pruitt. John graduated from Otter Creek High School in Terre Haute, and from Indiana State University in 1950 with a degree in business administration. He served as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army from 1950-52.
On August 7, 1954, John married Joyce Bosse in Evansville, Indiana. From 1952-1987, John worked for Marathon Oil Company in public and government affairs. He was an active member of Epworth United Methodist Church for many years.
As a Boy Scouts of America volunteer for more than half a century, He earned numerous awards, including Firecrafter, Silver Beaver, Wood Badge, Order of the Arrow and Master Scouter.
An avid woodworker and musician, John loved to play the piano, the accordion and the drums. John is survived by his wife Joyce Pruitt, his children John W. Pruitt and Jennifer Hesterhagen, six grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
John's memorial calling will be from 4:30 to 6:30pm, Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at Flanner and Buchanan- Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, 9700 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, IN 46250 in the Good Shepherd Chapel, with a memorial service immediately following at 6:30pm.
