John Charles Pitts, 86, formerly of Connecticut, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2026, surrounded by his family.
Born on April 4, 1940, in Middletown, Connecticut, John was the beloved son of the late John “Jack” Pitts and Edna (Koerner) Pitts. A devoted son and brother, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Thomas J. Pitts, Lucy Gironda, Vinny Pitts, and Richard Pitts.
John was a loving and faithful husband, a devoted father, a proud grandfather and great-grandfather, and a compassionate friend to many. He cherished 59 years of a beautiful and loving marriage with his wife, Cheryl (Clark) Pitts. Together, they built a life centered on family, faith, and service to others.
He is also survived by his children, Heather Pitts Patrick (Douglas) of Leesburg, VA, Robin Pitts Wojcieszek (William), and Jason Pitts (Maya) of Detroit, MI; his sister, Nancy DiCaprio of Lake Worth, FL; and sister-in-law, Lilia Pitts. John was a proud grandfather to five grandchildren, Kate Mehta of Princeton, NJ, Brooke Wojcieszek, Alexis Wojcieszek, Caley Pitts, and Clark John “CJ” Pitts, and he was blessed with two great-grandchildren, Josie and Mason Mehta, whom he adored deeply.
John was a man of great intellect and curiosity. He earned his degree in Physics from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, which laid the foundation for a distinguished career in technology and engineering. He held multiple positions with United Technologies in Connecticut and later shared his expertise through independent consulting in computer systems. In later years, he enjoyed working at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Golf Course and serving in security roles for sporting events.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, John was a true pillar of his community. He served as President of the American UNIVAC Users Association and was a dedicated public servant, serving multiple terms as a Town Councilman in South Windsor, Connecticut. His deep faith guided him in his roles as Moderator, Deacon, and Treasurer of Center Congregational Church in Manchester, CT. He also gave generously of his time coaching and supporting youth hockey and baseball programs in South Windsor.
Known affectionately by family as the “gadget man,” John had a lifelong love of technology and was always exploring the latest electronics. In recent years, he found joy in flying drones, embracing new hobbies with the same enthusiasm that defined his life.
John treasured time spent with his family, especially at their beloved lake house in New Hampshire, where boating, fishing, and laughter created lasting memories. He was a devoted sports fan, faithfully following University of Connecticut Huskies basketball and the Hartford Whalers.
Above all, John will be remembered for his thoughtful nature, steady presence, and genuine compassion. Whether as a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, or friend, he lived a life rooted in love, service, and integrity. His legacy will continue through the many lives he touched.
