John P. Jones, 87, of Indianapolis, passed away at home on Tuesday, June 22, 2021. He was born in Fortville, Indiana, to the late F. Max and Helen Jones on March 11, 1934.
John met his future wife, Jo Ann Breimeir, when both were members of the Sky Hi Club of Indianapolis. They married January 14, 1961, in St. Patrick Catholic Church. After living in Cleveland, Ohio, for five years, they settled on the west side of Indianapolis where John spent many hours on do-it-yourself projects, often collaborating with his son Jeff on woodworking. He worked in telecommunications as a telephone engineer at AT&T Long Lines/Indiana Bell/Ameritech, retiring after over 30 years of service.
John was an active member of St. Christopher Catholic Church as well as being a long-time member of the Indianapolis Hiking Club and the Central Indiana Chapter of the American Theatre Organ Society. As a talented, self-taught organist in his own right, he thoroughly enjoyed attending concerts as well as playing for the residents of The Harrison and Park Square Manor and performing pre-show organ music at Footlight Musicals.
Over the years John and Jo Ann made many happy memories during their visits to the Kentucky home of their daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Brett Ervin. According to John, no visit would be complete without a trip to Joe Bologna’s Italian Pizzeria in Lexington. For dessert, he was always ready to treat them to his favorite—ice cream.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Max and Helen. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jo Ann; daughter Julie (Brett); son Jeff; grandsons Patrick (Nicole), Peter (Hailee), Paul (Mackenzie), Mark, Matthias, and Linus; great-grandchildren Archer, Miriam, Wren and Alice; brothers Bill (Vera), Ronnie (Beth), Ken (Vita), and Richard (Kathy); aunt Loretta and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
