John Francis Mullen, 93, of Carmel Indiana, passed away on March 20, 2026. John was born and raised in Washington Heights, New York, the third child of Timothy (Ted) and Anne Mullen, both originally born in Ireland. He is pre-deceased by his two brothers, Edward Mullen and James Mullen, and is survived by his sister Mrs. Anne Nancy Mullen Finnegan.
John married his beloved wife Marion D. Long on April 17, 1955, in New York. They lived in several different locations, finally settling in Carmel Indiana in 1974. Together John and Marion raised 5 children, and they have 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. John was deeply saddened by the passing of his wife Marion on August 11, 2024, and their son John T. Mullen in October 2023. John T. is survived by his wife Therese and three sons. John is survived by his children, Kevin D. (Sheri) Mullen, Joan P. Mullen (Michael) Kaster, Colleen M. (Joe Castillon) Mullen and Timothy F. (Kimberly) Mullen, grandchildren, great grandchildren and several cousins both in the United States and Ireland.
John had an early entry in to the U.S. Navy, where he was a Seaman 1st Class. After the Navy, he enrolled and graduated from St. John’s University in New York with a degree in English Literature. John had a love for both the English language as well as music and singing. After graduation, he embarked on a nearly 34-year career with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
After John retired in 1984, from a lengthy career as a Special Agent with the FBI, he embarked on a 10-year career with Merchants Bank as the Director of Corporate Security. Upon his final retirement, John and Marion enjoyed significant time with their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They also had the opportunity to travel abroad, visiting family in Ireland and England and touring several other countries in Europe.
John and Marion were long time parishioners at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church where he spent several years as a member of the church choir. In later years together with his wife, John and Marion cherished their time with their grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved being a predominant part of their lives.
John will be remembered for his incredibly sharp mind and strong personality. He affected the lives of many that he mentored through challenging times and circumstances.
