Bon vivant Jack (John Raymond) Montgomery, living in Kuwait City, Kuwait, gained his wings on October 20, 2025. He wanted to be in a warm place, and he got his wish.
Named after both grandfathers, born in Bridgeport Connecticut, he moved to Indianapolis, Indiana at the age of 2, after having survived unscathed a serious bout of encephalitis. He attended Indianapolis schools, Fall Creek Elementary, Eastwood Junior High and North Central High School, class of 1979 (Go Panthers!). He was on the 7-year plan at Indiana University (Go Hoosiers!), which included a year at American University in Cairo (AUC) (Driven by Excellence). A proud member of Kappa Sigma (Beta Theta Chapter) fraternity at IU (his brother Brian a member of the Purdue chapter), he made life-long friends with his brothers. His grad school degrees were from University of South Carolina (Go Cocks!) which included most course work done at AUC. He was proud that there are memorial trees at AUC honoring his mother and father Josephine (Barrett) and Loren Montgomery, his paternal grandmother Hannah Atkinson Montgomery, and niece Madeleine Bachelier. The remaining tree in "The AUC Grove" as he called it, now bears his name.
Jack was a water skier, real estate appraiser, waiter, Listerine importer, kitty deporter, contact lens distributor, home appliance distributor, carpet purveyor, jackhammer operator, voiceover actor, cement seller, cruise line checker-inner, Calvert's Extra drinker, convertible car driver, job placer; one of his greatest gifts was to be able to adjust to life in several countries and work in many fields of employment. (You the reader surely know of talents (and foibles) of Jack's that I have missed.) His knowledge of the requirements of many jobs made him a competent and sought-after job recruiter.
He lived in Egypt (his spiritual home), Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the UAE, and moved to his final home in Kuwait (half-time Jack) ten years ago. He had visited five continents but his love for the Middle East and Gulf was paramount. He was almost unexcelled in keeping track of the many friends that he had made in so many countries.
Many, many thanks to his Kuwait friends who helped so much in assisting and speeding his final journey back to the USA.
-His big sister, Sue Montgomery
