John Thomas Lyons

John Thomas Lyons, age 58 of McCordsville, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 22, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

John was born on November 18, 1965, in Rochester, NY, the son of Duane Thomas and Mary Alice (Cawley) Lyons.

John attended Paddy Hill Elementary School and Greece Arcadia High School in Greece, NY. After graduating high school, he attended Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY, where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Distribution in 1987.

In January 1988, he began working for Rockwell Automation as a Sales Engineer to fulfill his passion and dream of reinvigorating American manufacturing. He would progress through the company and spend almost 35 years with his first employer. John married Lora Ferch on August 17, 1991, at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Indianapolis after meeting at the Ale Emporium.

The newlyweds then moved into their first home in Broad Ripple, IN. To enable their passion for horses, the pair then moved to Pittsboro, IN, where they were able to have horses on their own property.

After renovating their home and living in Pittsboro, John and Lora decided to build their own farm in Zionsville, IN. Following the completion of their dream home, the couple became a family as they welcomed their first son, Colton. Three years later, they welcomed their miraculous second and third children, Tyler and Jessie, into their arms.

The family moved to Wisconsin, where they lived for 9 years as John continued to advance his career. Then, after a two year stay in Texas, the family returned home to Indiana.

In Indiana he was involved with many of his children’s sports organizations and recently started a new job with READY Robotics, reflecting his passion for learning and leading through technology.

Throughout his time with his family, he shared his passions for horses, sports, and cars with his children. He loved, laughed with, and taught each person that he met. John was a mentor to many and one always knew where they stood with him. Everyone he met always appreciated his honesty and integrity. John’s faith was paramount to him and served as his compass throughout his life.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Lora Lyons of McCordsville, Indiana, and their three children, Colton Thomas Lyons, Tyler Brendan Lyons, and Jessie Anne Lyons. He is preceded in death by his father, Duane Thomas Lyons.  He is survived by his mother Mary Alice Lyons of Greece, New York. He also is survived by his sister Anne (John) Brand of Greece, New York, and many nieces, nephews, other family members, relatives, and friends.

A visitation will be held on Monday, February 26, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Flanner Buchanan – Geist, located at 7855 Cork Road, Indianapolis, IN 46236.

An additional visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Holy Spirit Parish at Geist – located at 10350 Glaser Way, Fishers, IN 46037.

His funeral mass will follow at 11:00 AM. Father Cole Daily will officiate.

Cremation Rites will be accorded following the funeral mass.

Memorial gifts to honor John’s legacy may be made to HSE Hockey, HSE Lacrosse, or Holy Spirit Geist Catholic Youth Programs.
