John Joseph O'Sullivan

John J. O'Sullivan 65, of Indianapolis, died peacefully on July 31, 2014. Born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., he attended Good Shepherd Catholic School, LaSalle Academy and both Kingsborough Community College and Baruch College where he received his B.B.A. in Marketing and Advertising. John served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1969 to 1975. During his early business career, John worked in various store management positions for department store retailers Alexander's (NYC), Bloomingdale's (NYC, Washington, D.C.), and Lord and Taylor (Houston, TX). Resisting any work on Sunday's, John switched his focus from store management to distribution services and logistics. Over the next 15+ years, John would assist the following companies: The Woman's Shop (Houston, TX), The Fair (Beaumont, TX), Paul Harris Stores (Indianapolis, IN), Woods Industries (Indianapolis, IN) and Brightpoint (Indianapolis, IN). John then devoted his business career to working with entrepreneurs in the fields of manufacturing, landscape/nursery services, modular buildings and janitorial services. He then devoted his time and efforts with his son Tim who owns and operates and LED e-commerce business. John remained focused on his family and career while always giving back to the community. In Houston and in Indianapolis he served on the board of directors of his homeowner's associations; served on a logistics management council as both a member and officer; served on the board of directors and as an instructor of an Indianapolis entrepreneurial not-for-profit. John is survived by his wife of 18 years Jo (Alexander) O'Sullivan, his son Timothy (Renee) , and his step-daughters Michelle Wootan and Melanie (Jason) Clayman; his grandchildren Dustin Wheeler, Rachel Wheeler, Nick Beauchamp, Jennifer Wootan, Max Wootan, Alexander Drish and Wyatt Clayman; brother and sister-in-law William and Pam O'Sullivan (Ft. Myers, FL); sister Patricia Quigg (Indio, CA); many nieces, nephews and cousins in the O'Sullivan, O'Donnell, Walsh and Powers families. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Catherine (Fleming) O'Sullivan; sister and brother-in-law Maureen and Eugene (O'Donnell) of Poway, CA; brothers-in-law Dennis (Walsh) and Cornelius (Quigg) both of Poway, CA. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 from 4 to 8 p.m. in Flanner and Buchanan-Washington Park North, Indianapolis, IN. Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 in SS. Peter and Paul Cathedral, Indianapolis, IN. Burial will follow in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, Indianapolis, IN.
