John (Jack) William Merritt Sr. Age 93, native of Indianapolis, IN, presently of St. Louis Missouri, passed away peacefully at home Friday July 9, 2021 surrounded by family.
John is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jeannine (Jean) Merritt. He is preceded in death by their three children: Karen, Kelly and Kevin. Other survivors include their children, Carol, John Jr. and Jackie; his twelve grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
John is preceded in death by his sibling Marion Leonard. His surviving siblings are Jim Merritt and Donna Clutter.
Staff Sergeant in the United States Army, John served in the in the Philippines during World War II. and was later Vice President of the Howard W. Sam’s Publishing Company. Subsequently John was President and Publisher of the book division of the Saturday Evening Post, publishing several Norman Rockwell books.
Publishing was Jack’s passion as well as enjoying twenty-two years of living and retirement in Marco Island and Naples Florida. He enjoyed traveling and loved the company of his family and friends.
All who knew Jack knew him as a gentle, fun loving gentlemen, who lovingly touch the lives of everyone he met.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 17, 2021 from 10-12pm at the Flanner Buchanan-Washington Park North 2706 Kessler Blvd West Drive. A funeral service will follow at 12pm. Burial will be held at Washington Park North Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be donated to National Kidney Foundation 911 East 86th Street, Suite 100, Indianapolis, IN 46240.
