John Thomas Howell of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away May 15, 2026, at 63 years of age. He was the son of the late John Bruce and Donna Jean (Gootee) Howell. He was born in Seymour, Indiana on February 6, 1963. John served as a Deputy Sheriff for the Marion County Sheriff’s Office for 27 years with prior service with the New Whiteland Police Department. John enjoyed hunting and fishing and anything outdoors. He was also a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed watching Ohio State and IU Football. John’s greatest joy was spending time with his Grandson. There was a special bond between them and they referred to each other as their “best bud”. John knew no strangers and could easily strike up a conversation with anyone on any level. He was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew him. John is survived by his wife of almost 40 years, Marilyn Janine (Krackenberger) Howell his daughter Kristin Howell, and his Grandson Jack Howell. Additional survivors include his brother, James T. (Melanie) Howell, and his sister, Tammy J (Robert) Dukeshire as well as his extended family and a few close friends. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Doc and Doris Howell and James and Emma Gootee. Arrangements at this time are private. A Celebration of Life will follow.
