John Harrison Hodges

John Harrison Hodges, 82, of Westfield, Indiana passed away on June 16, 2024. He was born September 8, 1941, in Bloomington, Indiana, the son of the late John R. and Virginia F. (Moore) Hodges. He was named after his father and grandfather, Rolla Harrison Moore. In October 1961, he married Norma Jo Hynds in Paris, IL. She was the love of his life and they were married for 62 years. She preceded him in death on December 25, 2023.

John was raised in Bedford, Indiana and graduated from Bedford High School in 1959. He later continued his education at Indiana University where he obtained both a bachelor’s and master’s degree. John taught social studies at both Oolitic HS and then Warren Central HS for more than 39 years. He retired in 2002.

John was an outdoors man and enjoyed golfing, biking, hiking and mountain climbing. He and Norma traveled all over the world. He was also an avid reader. He and Norma were IU sports fans and attended football games for 35 plus years. 

He is survived by his brother Donald E. Hodges, two sons, John R. “Richard” Hodges (Lori) and James RH “Randall” Hodges (Lisa), 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rhonda Jo (Hodges) Manion.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Flanner Buchanan – Hamilton Memorial Park (Prairie Waters), 4180 Westfield Road, Westfield, Indiana. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Heart Association.
