Mr. John Gust Pappas

Saturday April 2, 2022 John Gust Pappas died at Ascension St. Vincent in Indianapolis at the age of 76.

He was born on July 3, 1945 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Gust and Helen Pappas.  He received his undergraduate degree in education from Indiana University.  John then went on to receive his master’s degree in special education from Butler University.

He taught at the Indianapolis Public School System and upon retirement continued as a substitute teacher well into his 70s.  He was a devout Greek Orthodox and a lifelong and active member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.  John collected donations for the International Orthodox Christian Charities. From a young age, he enjoyed playing tennis, attending many professional tournaments.   John also was a very loyal Indiana University sports fan.

John was preceded in death by his brother, James Pappas; parents, Gust and Helen Pappas; and sister, Olga Efstathiou.  He is survived by his sister, Joann Sims (Allen) and brother-in-law Constantine Efstathiou; nephew Douglas Simpson and niece Angela Droll (David); nieces Lena George (Darrin) and Elaine Howell (Adam); as well as four great nephews and one great niece.

Family will receive friends on April 14, 2022 at Flanner Buchanan-Carmel, 325 E Carmel Drive from 4-8pm.  Additional calling will be held on Friday April 15th at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral 3500 W 106th Street, Carmel from 10 am followed by the funeral service at 11 am.  Burial will in Crown Hill Cemetery.  Online condolences and a video tribute may be viewed at www.flannerbuchanan.com
