John F. Minatel

John F. Minatel 97 of Carmel, passed away Sunday, December 2, 2012. John was born June 28, 1915 in Indianapolis to the late Dominic and Lucia Minatel. He was a graduate of Butler University and later received his Master's degree from there as well. John served in the US army during WWII and received European African Middle East Campaign Medal with five campaign stars as well as five bronze stars for heroic or meritorious achievement. John taught special education in the Indianapolis Public Schools for 32 years at Tech High School, Howe High School and Harry Wood High School. His students at Harry Wood High School helped in the construction of the first Monument Circle Christmas decorating. John was a member of the National Association of Retired Teachers, American Legion Post #3, Ancient Landmarks Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite 33rd Degree, Murat Shrine and the York Rite. He was first President of Historic Car Club, First Vice President of the Murat Car Club. John was stage manager for the Shriners for 12 years and technical director for the Scottish Rite for 14 years, over the years building hundreds of sets. A memorial service is scheduled for 6:00 pm Wednesday, December 5 at Flanner and Buchanan-Carmel. Friends and family are invited to gather on Wednesday from 2:00 pm until the time of the service. John is survived by his sister, Agnes Evrard and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Mueller Minatel; siblings, Louis, Joseph, Ed, Rosemary, Robert, and Charles Minatel.
