John Faison “Jeff” Allen, 78, of Indianapolis, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2019.
He was born on December 12, 1940 in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, to the late Joseph Dana and Caroline (Faison) Allen. Jeff graduated from The Haverford School and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in music from Denison University. He went on to serve in the USAF from 1963-1970. Following his honorable discharge, he completed his Master’s Degree in psychology from Ball State University. He worked as a psychologist for Apalachee Correctional Institution in Florida for 25 years. He also served in the Alabama Air National Guard and retired as a Captain in 2004.
Jeff was very active with several churches in Florida, specifically the Christian and Missionary Alliance and First Presbyterian Church of Marianna. After relocating to Indianapolis, he joined South Irvington Church of the Nazarene and later attended Trinity Lutheran Church. He enjoyed serving in church food pantries and singing in the choir. Jeff loved classical music and sang in numerous musical performances throughout his life.
Jeff is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ruthanne (Reynolds); three sons, John (April), Joel and Frank (Kate); grandchildren, Kendall, Benjamin, Jackson, Eleanor, and Adeline; brother, Joseph “Jay” Allen; and sister, Judy Kniffen. Also, Jeff’s caregivers became like family, and Jeff’s family wishes to express our grateful appreciation to James Jones, Keenan Wright, and Crystal Hardy, for their indispensable support and kindness.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, March 18, 2019 at 11 am at Flanner Buchanan – Memorial Park, with visitation 1 hour prior to the service. Entombment with Military Honors will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Still Waters Adult Day Center (Indianapolis).
