John Doyle (JD) Jones passed away on April 30, 2023, at the age of 90. He was born January 25, 1933, in Orleans, Indiana to the late Charles and Grace (Tarr) Jones. He graduated in 1950 from Orleans High School. He married Barbara Sue Toliver on December 27, 1952. They were married almost 70 years before her death on December 6, 2022. He was a Navy veteran serving in the Korean War from 1953 to 1956.
The Jones’ resided in Decatur Township for 60 years before moving to Greenfield in 2019. He was an active member of West Newton United Methodist Church and served on various church committees, until his move to Greenfield. He retired from Carpenter Shop at Allison Transmission in 1991 after 40 years of service. He started out as a stock chaser, held various other positions before entering the carpenter program around 1983. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, bowling, and working on things.
He was the father of Kim (Mark) Lozier of Greenfield, John (Jackie) Jones of Denham Springs, Louisiana, the late Lori Pearcy, David (Sheri) Jones of Murray, Kentucky, and Joni (Dave) Johnson of Indianapolis. He had 11 grandchildren (Joe Pearcy, Meaghan Myers, Allyson Williams, Nathan Jones, Ben Jones, Ashleigh Baker, Whitney Davis, Kristin White, Amberlie Morris, Caleb Morris, Hunter Jones) and 10 great-grandchildren (Leona, Wyatt and Maggie Pearcy, Ian and Anna Kate Jones, Cooper and Shiloh Davis, Jackson and LoriAnn Williams, Senna White). He was the brother of Iona Toliver.
Besides his parents and daughter, he was preceded in death by his siblings: Raymond Jones and Elvin Jones. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 4 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Flanner and Buchanan Decatur Township 5463 Kentucky Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana 46221. Services on Friday, May 5 at 11:00 AM at West Newton United Methodist Church, 6843 Mendenhall Road, Indianapolis, Indiana 46221 with visitation one hour prior. Burial at West Newton Cemetery.
