John David Kelley

John D. Kelley, 83, of Indianapolis, IN passed away on April 15, 2021. He was born in Indianapolis, IN the son of the late Georgia Hazel (Shaw) and Raymond Kelley. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Joanna Rae Kelley. Survivors include daughters Tina Kelley Marsh (Kenny Marsh); Erin Kelley (Jeff Zickgraf); Beth Kelley Trivunovic (Steve Trivunovic); son, Sean Kelley; and grandchildren Eric Marsh and Maebel Trivunovic.

John served in the Army National Guard (1960-66) as a small arms repairman. One of his proudest stories was of how he called off a firing exercise while stationed in Puerto Rico because he noticed the shells were defective. He was not ranked high enough to make the call, but always assumed it was the right one since he never got into trouble.

A lifelong Haughvillian, John was a 42-year employee of the United States Postal Service. He retired in 2000 and enjoyed many years of Colts games, Indy 500 races, and a few dream vacations in Europe where he kissed the Blarney stone, honored the fallen at Normandy, explored the Coliseum, and enjoyed more than a few pints along the Thames.
