John Edward Burns, Jr. died peacefully, February 28, 2015. He was born March 18, 1918 in Wethersfield, Connecticut to John Edward Burns and Leontine (McCormick) Burns. He attended Shortridge High School in Indianapolis and graduated from Wesleyan University, Middletown, Connecticut, class of 1940. During his years at Wesleyan he was a member of the Mu Epsilon Chapter of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. He married his college sweetheart, Martha Welles Morgan on July 3, 1943.
Ed joined the USAF, becoming Captain, and was stationed much of the time at Wright Patterson AF base in Dayton, Ohio where he worked on the development of high altitude flight suits.
After the war he joined his father in Indianapolis, as President of Crescent Oil Company and Burns Laboratories. He was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church, serving on the junior and senior vestries. He was a member of the Woodstock Club, the Scottish Society and the IMA Horticultural Society. Ed will be lovingly remembered by his children: Sarah Torgeson, Martha O'Driscoll (Cyril), John Edward Burns III, Barbara Munson, and grandchildren; Margaret Spindlow (Sam), John O'Driscoll, Lillian Munson, Nels Munson, and Jennifer Burns, and great-grandson Rory Spindlow.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on March 11, at Trinity Episcopal Church, 3243 N. Meridian Street. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church or Riley Hospital for Children.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Flanner and Buchanan-Zionsville.
