John Bates

John A. Bates, born June 5, 1941 in Rushville, IN, died January 27, 2014. Son of Lawrence Bates and Anna Trader Bates, he is survived by wife, Judith Coffey Bates, step-sons Aaron Dickson and Sean Dickson, brothers Steven and Michael (Marie)Bates, sister, Sr. Linda Bates, OSF, special cousins & friends. His parents and sister, Jane Bates, preceded him in death. He attended St. Meinrad Academy, and had a degree from Marion University. He was employed for 20 years at Mayflower Transit and later at National City Bank. An avid fisherman and gardener, he lived in Pataskala, OH and Bowling Green, KY before returning to Indiana in October, 2012 A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Thursday at 10:00am in the chapel at Hoosier Village Retirement Center, with private internment in Calvery Cemetery at a later date.
