John Balchan

John Balchan, Jr. 89, of Sebring, FL, died in Carmel, IN, on September 27, 2010 from injuries sustained in a car accident June 2. He is survived by sons: Doug Balchan, his wife Jane (Castellini) of Springfield, OH, and their four children, and Daryl Balchan, his wife Patti (Dillon) of Carmel, IN, and their three children. John was born May 14, 1921, in Detroit, Michigan. A WWII Marine Corps veteran, he saw action in the Pacific Theatre and the Occupation of China before being honorably discharged. He worked as a machinist, owned and operated JohnEl’s Gas Station and Muffler Shop, was a Zoning Inspector for the City of Warren, and a Water Treatment Plant Supervisor for the City of Detroit. He married Eleanor Marecki Balchan on Aug 24, 1946. She preceded him in death by 12 years. After retirement they split their time between Canadian Lakes, Stanwood, Michigan, and Sun ‘n Lakes, Sebring, Florida, golfing and enjoying life. He could fix anything, or rebuild it better than new. A gathering will take place on Oct 2, 3-5pm at the Balchan family's home in Carmel, IN and a Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Raphael’s Church, Springfield, OH, at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 16. His ashes will be interred next to his wife in Remus, MI.
