John Alden Ruble

John Alden Ruble, age 71, passed away on September 19th, 2021 at the VA Hospital in Tucson, Arizona.

John was born on November 24th, 1949 in Connersville, Indiana. He attended Howe High School in Indianapolis, Indiana. John was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He served as an Anti-Tank Assault Man in the United States Marine Corps with Alpha Company 1st Battalion 4th Marines until 1970 when he was honorably discharged. He was awarded a Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2*, Vietnamese Meritorious Unit Citation Gallantry Cross with Palm, Vietnam Campaign Medal with device -60, and the M-14 Rifle Sharpshooter Badge.

John became a firefighter with the Indianapolis Fire Department on November 5th, 1975 and continued his firefighting career until his retirement in December of 2010. John and Carolyn moved to Vail, Arizona in 2017 to enjoy their retirement together.

John was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America. He enjoyed being involved with the Indiana Bulldog Rescue organization. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 109 in Corona de Tucson, Arizona.

He is survived by his loving wife Carolyn Ruble (just shy) of 51 years and two adult daughters, Shawnie (Rick) Peterson and Keri (Andy) Hearrell. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren with another due in February.

John was preceded in death by his parents Henderson and Viola (Payton) Ruble; siblings Ron, Phyllis, and Scott; as well as his infant son Scotty.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, October 5th, 2021 from 4PM to 8PM at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East (10722 E Washington St, Indianapolis, IN 46229). A funeral service will be held the following day at 11AM. John will be laid to rest in Washington Park East Cemetery.

Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers may be made to the Vietnam Veterans of America or Fallen Firefighter Memorial.
