Johanne Ely

Johanne Meyers Ely, 92, of Zionsville died May 5, 2011. She was born in Indianapolis to the late Ralph R. and Blanche Smith Meyers on August 27, 1918. She graduated from New Augusta High School, and married J Norman Ely in 1940. Johanne worked in bookkeeping and accounting at Ayr Way (now Target), but the job she loved the most was teaching kindergarten. Johanne was a member of Eastern Star, Kappa Kappa Sig, and Salem Lutheran Church. Johanne is survived by her brother John E. Meyers; sons Ralph N. Ely (Christine) and James F. Ely (Nika); daughter Susan Ely Carr; grandchildren Brian Ely, Melissa Ely Moore (Bruce), Christopher J. Ely, and Erin Carr Adams (Jason); and great-grandchildren Riley and Connor Moore. Johanne was preceded in death by her husband and brother James T. Meyers. Visitation will be Monday, May 9, 2011 at Flanner and Buchanan Zionsville Funeral Center from 4 to 8 pm. Services will be held Tuesday, May 10 at Salem Lutheran Church, 4700 W. 72nd Street, New Augusta at 11 am, with calling one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery.
