JoANN MILLER, was born on March 24th, 1939, to the late Will and JoEllen Johnson in Ripley, Mississippi.
While helping to take care of her family, JoAnn attended and graduated from Line Street School (Ripley High School), where she played on the women’s basketball team and was homecoming queen during her sophomore year.
JoAnn expressed her hope in Christ as a child at Adkins Chapel United Methodist Church in Blue Mountain, MS, and after moving to
Indianapolis, Indiana, she became a member of Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church.
Once she was in Indianapolis, she began working at General Hospital (Eskenazi Hospital) and later at Sargent Paint Company. JoAnn spent her last 22 years of employment working as a cook at St. Vincent Hospital.
While working at General Hospital, JoAnn got to know her future husband, Frank William Miller. They joined together in marriage on July 8th, 1960 and were married for 63 years. In that time, she raised two sons, Frank “Cricket” William Miller Jr. and Christopher “Grasshopper” Lee Miller.
JoAnn Miller was a loving mother and wife, who always brought a smile to a face with her humor and a smile to a stomach with her cooking. She always made the best food for every occasion, and loved to sit and spend time with her family. Her sharp wit, beautiful smile, amazing food, engaging conversations, and lovely presence will be greatly missed by all whose lives she had touched.
JoAnn’s sun had set on February 21st, 2024 and was preceded in death by her brothers; Russell “Mookie”, Willie “Sonny”, Charles “Brownie”, and Billy “Big” Johnson.
