Joe D. Jackson went home to be with his Lord and Savior, family, and good buddies on Sunday, August 24th. Joe was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma on September 17, 1934 to Austin and Rena (nee Mallory) Jackson, the youngest of six children. He was predeceased by his cherished parents and beloved brothers Bob, Bud, and Charley. He is survived by his beautiful bride of 63 years, Barbara D. (nee Barnard) Jackson, loving daughters Jo Lynn and Kelly Jackson, his two sisters Betty Lou Whitesell (Jack) and Helen Marsh, faithful friend and fishing buddy, J. Carroll (Barbara) Comer, special cousins Rusty and Claudette Silvis, and a host of wonderful brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.
Joe (Double-J) was a retired member of the Teamsters 135 and worked at various trucking companies over the years including Yellow Freight, IKC, TransCon, and TMX before retiring from Preston. Joe was the ultimate racing fan and definitely had the need for speed. An avid fisherman, Joe fished all over the United States and Canada with Pappy, his brothers, and friends...and truly enjoyed every minute of it. But most of all, Joe was a wonderful husband, fantastic Dad, loving brother, and wonderful friend to many. He said what he meant and meant what he said. He loved to talk, laugh, loved real country music, and treasured and provided for all of his girls unconditionally.
At Joe's request there will be no services. There will be a celebration of life from 6:00-8:00pm at Union Jack's Pub in Speedway on September 17th, which would have been Joe's 80th birthday. We are hoping for an outdoor celebration, weather permitting.
We offer our sincere and heartfelt gratitude to Dr. David Bain and Horizon Hospice Nurses Ashley, Denise, Lisa, and Lisa for their tender and loving care of our Joe. If you are inclined to honor Joe's memory, please consider a donation to Horizon Hospice in Danville, Indiana. Thank you for your thoughts, prayers, and kind words over the last few months.
