Jocelynne (Joy) Fulk was born on April 4, 1954, in Oceanside, NY, to F. William and Nancy Fullen Tripp who are both deceased. She is survived by her brother Jeffery Tripp (Sharon), husband Donald B. Fulk and her eight children; Michael (Michelle, deceased), Trevor (Julie), Brian (Jaclyn), Kevin (Kari), Johanna (Joshaua) Barnes, Sterling (Lauren), Adriel, and Nadia (John) Hull and their families of 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Joy grew up in Harrisburg, PA, and graduated from Geneva College in Beaver Falls, PA with a BS degree in Biology and Chemistry. During her time at Geneva, she attended the Geneva RP church and under the teaching of Rev Renwick Wright, she accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at age 19. Sharing Jesus’s love and acceptance with others became a priority in her life. After graduation she moved to Indianapolis, IN, and worked in Quality Control for Bio-Dynamics (now Roche Diagnostics), then worked for a time as a flavor chemist at Universal Flavors before becoming a full-time wife and mother. As children were born, she actively homeschooled them, finding ways to integrate teaching with activities and crafts. This skill became very useful as she later began working as a Park Naturalist.
Joy was an Indiana Master Naturalist, an Indiana Master Gardner, and for over twenty years was an IHSAA Certified Volleyball Referee. She volunteered at Fort Harrison State Park, Eagle Creek Park, Holliday Park, and after all her children had graduated from high school, she went to work as a Naturalist for Hendricks County Parks & Recreation. She became a member of the National Association of Interpretation (NAI), received her CIG certification, and after about 10 years as a member, she was involved with planning the 2026 Regional NAI Conference held in Ft Wayne, IN. She also became a member of Environmental Educators Association of Indiana (EEAI). Although not very active on the air, she maintained an active amateur radio license, N9LTR.
Joy was an active birder, being able to identify many bird species by their calls. Her personal goal each year was to spot and identify over 200 species in Indiana, and 50 species in each of the counties surrounding Marion County. She was able to add to her “Life List” by traveling to Texas and Arizona in more recent years to explore the different species that reside in the Southwest.
After moving to Indianapolis, Joy became a member of Second Reformed Presbyterian Church and participated in over 25 years of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) along with bible studies with other women. She enjoyed sharing the knowledge and experiences that God had given her with many women and young ladies. She especially enjoyed ministering to disabled adults with the church’s Friendship Bible Study and officiating for Special Olympics.
Joy has asked for a Celebration of Life service which will be held at Second Reformed Presbyterian Church on June 29, 2026 at 1pm, after a private visitation and burial. In lieu of flowers or gifts, please consider a donation in her name to one or more of the following organizations: Geneva College, Indiana Audubon, Central Indiana Land Trust Inc (CILTI), NAI Great Lakes Region.
