Joanne Patricia Kinnett passed away October 8, 2025, at her home in Fishers, Indiana. She was 94 years old. Joanne was born Joanne Patricia Hines on January 15, 1931, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Thomas Allen Hines and Marie Alice Hines (Gillingham). Joanne was preceded in death by her husband Richard Lewis Kinnett, and her older siblings, sister Doris Hines and brother Thomas E. Hines.
Joanne was a talented illustrator but ultimately declined a scholarship to the Herron School of Art after completing high school, choosing instead to work as a secretary at Russell M. Tolley and Associates.
While single and working, Joanne met James William Martin, of Arlington, Indiana, a solo vocalist with the United States Army Chorus. Joanne was also a talented singer, and the two shared a love of music, particularly jazz. Joanne would frequently sing publicly with live ensembles at local jazz clubs. The two married and had two children, Lisa Marie Alexander, age 65, and James Blaine (Jim) Martin, age 63.
Joanne raised her two children in the house her father built on E 46th Street in Indianapolis, later moving to Broad Ripple during Lisa and Jim’s high school years. While raising her children, Joanne held the position of Office Manager for decades with Printing Incorporated/Promotional Enterprises; a printing company that published large professional reference volumes and catalogues.
After daughter Lisa and son Jim were adults, Joanne rekindled her friendship with Richard Kinnett (Dick). Joanne and Dick had had been childhood friends and attended elementary school together at Indianapolis P.S. 91 and graduated from Broad Ripple High School. Dick had recently lost his wife and mother of his two children, daughter Susan and son Steve. Dick and Joanne also shared a love of jazz music, and the two would frequently enjoy listening to live performances at The Parrothead and Capri restaurants in Indianapolis and made a couple of trips to New Orleans French Quarter among countless other venues.
Joanne and Dick were married on June 28, 1997, and enjoyed eight happy years of marriage until Dick’s passing on August 28, 2005.
Joanne’s entire life was guided by her strong faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, with her roots firmly established by her loving parents, with her father Thomas, being an active member of the Full Gospel Businessmen’s Association and later becoming a pastor of his own congregation. As an adult, Joanne was a longtime member of East 49th Street Christian Church which later relocated as East 91st Christian Church, where she and Dick were active until his passing. She was a member of the Joy Circle at East 91st Street and became a charter member of Legacy Bible Church. With aging issues, she became unable to attend in person. Joanne loved God and family above all.
Joanne is survived by her daughter Lisa M. Alexander (Harry), son James B. Martin (Yuqing), former daughter-in-law Julie Martin, stepdaughter, Susan D. (Scott) Morgan; stepson, Steve N. Kinnett (Kathy); grandchildren, Alex Morgan (Christine) and Kelsey Kanookaden (Joy); nephews Roy Hines and Jay Hines (Patty); and lifelong dear friends Pat Rice; Karen Patitz (Warren); Robert Estridge (Ronda); Margaret Kiesle, and; Thomas Estridge (Joy).
