Indianapolis

Joanna Elizabeth Parks, 89, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on December 10, 2024. Born on February 28, 1935, Joanna spent her formative years in Indianapolis, where she attended St. Phillips grade school and St. Mary's for high school. Her strong educational foundation prepared her for a dedicated career as a legal secretary at Barnes & Thornburg Law Firm, where she worked for 30 years before retiring.

Joanna was a woman of many passions, and a devout Catholic whose faith guided her throughout her life. She embraced the joys of travel, sharing numerous adventures with Bud (Charles). Together, they explored the world, including thrilling scuba diving excursions. Joanna’s love for the ocean was matched only by her commitment to serving her community. A proud member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary in Florida, she dedicated her time to helping others with unwavering enthusiasm.

In addition to her career and community service, Joanna led an active social life. She was a member of various volunteer organizations, including Oasis, a volunteer organization that helped the community, and took classes and trips, and was a member of the Social Aires - Our Lady of Lourdes, where her passion for community service shone brightly. Joanna served as president of the Pilot Club, an organization dedicated to fundraising and supporting those with mental disabilities. With a flair for creativity, she enjoyed her time with the Red Hat Society, where she once earned first place for her beautifully decorated hat.

Joanna's vibrant personality was characterized by her loving and caring nature. Even during life's trials and tough times, she maintained an upbeat and positive outlook that inspired those around her. In her leisure time, Joanna found joy in bowling, being an active participant in a league, and she cherished the weekly card games played with her neighbors, particularly Euchre.

She was also deeply proud of her Danish heritage, with family roots tracing back to Denmark. She held a special fondness for her grandmother and grandfather, whose names are at Ellis Island.

Joanna is survived by her daughter, Kathy Jackson and her husband, Robert; grandchildren, Hollie Parks, Ashton Parks, Andrew, Benjamin, Ashley Jackson; great-grandchildren, Lillian, Anastasia, Hunter, Adalynn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward Parks; her children, Linda Parks and David Parks.
