JoAnn Geringer, 94, of Indianapolis passed away on August 1, 2024. Born in Cincinnati and raised in New Richmond, Ohio, she was the daughter of Jesse and Alta Osborne. She attended Miami University of Ohio and the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. Shortly after their marriage, she and Raymond established a lifelong home in Indianapolis, where they shared a love of travel and their beloved Boston terriers.
Singing was especially important to her, including participation in the Indianapolis Matinee Musicale, Purdue University Extension Chords, Indiana Catholic Choir, and East Group of the Indianapolis Symphony Choir. She was an active member of St. Pius X Church for over 50 years, serving on the Pastoral Council and as Cantor and member of the choir and funeral choir. Proud of her family history in America dating back to Jamestown, Virginia, service in the American Revolution, and being original land grant settlers in Kentucky, she was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).
JoAnn is survived by her true love and husband of 72 years, Raymond Joseph Geringer, daughters Laura Ellis (Kent) and Patricia Ketner (the late Joseph II), son John Michael Geringer, grandchildren Chris Ellis (Marisa), Joseph Ketner III (Caitlin), and Alexander Raymond Ketner, and great grandchildren Charlotte Ellis, Kennedy Ellis, Owen James Ketner, and Julian Joseph Ketner. She was preceded in death by her son Raymond (Jay) Geringer, Jr.
A memorial visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 17, at the cathedral of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Cemetery, 9001 N. Haverstick Rd., Indianapolis, followed by a funeral mass at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the educational scholarships fund of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Republic.
